Amy
April 3, 2011
Engaged since November 2009
Our families are old friends and go way back, but we never had a face to put with each other's names and somehow always missed each other at family functions (we both went to school out of state). When we finally met and hit it off, both families were ecstatic. I guess we weren't meant to meet until we were both ready. It was fate!
He proposed at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston.

Carol
May 16, 2010
Engaged April 4, 2009
We met online - my sister signed me up b/c she was tired of me being single and he joined b/c he turned 30 and was single
He proposed at Bayou Bend, which is one of the first places we went when we moved here.

I got married on Cape Cod but I used:
Ventura's for my dress (they were pretty average but very reliable, and i love my dress and got it pretty cheap)
Beautiful U for my alterations (they do good work, but are over-priced)
Misora for my invitations (they are a dress place, but also do invitations - all invitations are always 15% off and they were super patient with me through the proofing process)
Kinkos for STDs, programs, menus, etc (terrible customer svc, but the best for that price)

Because I planned long-distance, I bought a lot of stuff on-line and had it shipped directly to my in-laws', so if you have questions about candles, table number holders, etc., feel free to ask!

Patricia (or PJ)
February 20, 2011
Engaged May 2007.

We met at a HORRIBLE little bar here in Huntsville. He was a barback and his friend came over to talk to my friend and I because they had a history class together. He felt that his friend couldn't handle one girl, let alone two so he came over to take control of the situation. That night once he got off work all four of us hung out behind my dorm and the rest is history. :o)

He proposed to me in my dorm room. Bent down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Just me and him. I wouldn't have wanted it anyway. We had only been dating for eight months when he proposed and we both agreed we wanted to wait until after we graduated with our Bachelors. I graduated Dec. 2009, he graduated May 2010.

Ceremony: University of Houston Chapel
Reception: Brady's Landing
And now we are as one

Lanie
-October 23, 2011...we think...we know Fall of 2011, but thats about it!
-We met in High School. We never dated IN high school or even hung outside of school, but we talked a lot. We did not date until college.
-We have been engaged for almost six months :)
-The proposal was perfect. It was a normal day.

I was working when some beautiful white lillys were delivered. An envelope attatched to the flowers read "Do not open until you get off!!" Unfortunately, this was like 1pm and I got off at 6:30 or 7. Why he would do that to me I don't know...I am the most impatient person ever!

I ripped open the letter as I was clocking out. It said a whole bunch of very sweet things and said to go where we shared our first kiss. I found another long letter that lead me to our favorite resturant where the hostess handed me my next clue. Which lead me to our most relaxing and happy spot...our couch where we unwind at the end of the day. The letter on the couch lead me to the hotel where the year before for valentines day had rented a room and we had a candle light dinner with my favorite dish to-go. It was very sentimentle because it was right before he started his police training and we had very little time together during that time. It was the best night. I went to the front desk to for my next clue. She gave me a key to the room.

When I walked into the room, it had been aranged like our valentines day dinner. Music was playing and everything. I expected him to be in there, but I did not see him anywhere. There was a jewelry box sitting on the table with my last clue. I wripped open the letter and it said not to open the small box. I read the letter and it finally asked me open the box. I opened it, but there was only a small piece of folded up paper in it. When I unfolded it, it read "turn around." When I turned around he was on one knee with my ring in another box.

It was perhaps a little corny, but it was us. So very perfectly us. He was crying hysterically...probably more so than I was. Which we always laugh at because we are more of a funny couple and I had never imagined it being so emotional, but it was absolutely perfect!

Name: Julie

Wedding date: October 9, 2010

How long you've been engaged: Since March 6, 2009

How you met: At a club...on the dance floor

Proposal Story: It was the week of my finals and to get my mind off school, FI suggested a "date night". We went to D&B where one of our first dates was. I usually crave dessert after date night, so we head to a new bakery near our home. On the way over, he gets me talking about sticker pictures that I used to take in college. Lo and behold a sticker picture place is next to the bakery and we go up and take pictures for old times sake. Upon picking up the pictures, he hands me the stack..and at the bottom are a series of photos of only him spelling out "Will You Marry Me?" I'm so confused at this point thinking he cut me out of the photos and look up and he's on one knee with my most gorgeous ring. So I guess we technically have "engagement" photos from the sticker pictures we took that night :-)

Vendor Recommendations and website: So I'm not married yet, but love my vendors so far!

How long you've been engaged
We were engaged for almost a year and a half. He proposed July 26th, 2008

How you met
We actually met in first grade so we have known each other since then. We had classes together till 7th grade. In 7th we had every class together and his locker was above mine. We became friends and then I moved that summer. We didn't see each other again till high school. We met again through his best friend. (Who I kind of dated but not really, he was in our wedding too.) We exchanged numbers and would talk all the time after that. He asked me to his senior prom, we liked each other but kept it secret. After his first deployment we finally admitted our feelings. (It took him getting shot at for us to realize life was to short.) We have been together ever since then which was 2007.

Proposal Story
He had this plan and my MOH spilled the beans on where he was proposing. I knew he was going to because he swore a ring would be on my finger before he went on his 2nd deployment. I knew it was coming once it got close to him leaving. He still ended up doing it the way he planned which was fine with me. He took me to the park of the elem school we went to and proposed to me on the playground. It was sweet and perfect.

Arielle
August 20th 2011
We are married for 5 years but never had a wedding. We were engaged for 6 months
I was in college working at a grocery store and he worked in the bank in the grocery store. He always came through my line to buy little things that he probably did not need.  One day he asked me why I was working in a store and he offered to redo my resume so that I could find a better job. Somehow he asked me on a date and we have been together almost everyday since.
Proposal Story:
It was Valentines Day 2005 and we went on a date. He had already bought me a ring but decided to return it once he saw it on my hand. (he did not like it as much as h originally thought he did) I had no idea that he had bought me a new ring and suddenly while we were on our date he acted as if he dropped something and he proposed.

We met in college through mutual friends but later discovered we went to 2nd grade together.

How long you've been engaged 5.09.10

How you met I am very good friends with one of his sisters and her husband.  She invited me to go to Dallas to a dance seminar at Gilley's.  We traveled up there and the day of the seminar she told me she invited her 2 sisters and one of her brothers.  I didn't think anything of it because his parents talked about a girl that he had broken up with and was potentially getting back together with.  As soon as I saw him I was spent.  We were too nervous to talk to each other, but finally at the end of the day my friend insisted that we dance together for the last lesson of the day.  We were both so goofy and hit it off immediately.  We became facebook friends and talked back and forth for a while.  The old girlfriend was history.  Before you know it he started coming down here to see his sister.  All I kept hearing was "Michael's never come to see us before..."  "Michael's coming back to town this weekend..."  Even my FMIL was in on it.  After 4 months, on January 2, 2010 we were watching movies at his sister's house I felt his fingers on my hand.  Then we held hands through 2 movies.  It was so sweet.  I knew that this was the man I would spend the rest of my life with.  Since then we have only spent 1 weekend apart.

Proposal Story
Since we only get to see each other on the weekends we decided to plan a special weekend getaway to Fredericksburg.  Luckily he had to be here in Houston the whole week leading up to the trip for work.  We had never spent that many consecutive days together before, so it was good for us to have that experience.  I thought maybe he would ask me on the trip but he didn't.  On Sunday he told me he had to go back toward Austin to meet a work crew.  He left my house and I was just unpacking, bathing our dogs, etc.  Little did I know that he had the ring with him all week and had been trying to be alone with my dad to ask his permission to marry me.  But he could never get my dad alone.  While he was driving he had a feeling come over him like he had to do it right then and there.  He called my dad and said he needed to meet him somewhere.  They met, my dad asked a few questions, and gave him permission to propose.

Meanwhile, 3 hours have passed and I'm thinking he must be getting close to Austin.  Our dogs start going nuts at the front window so I check it out.  Michael's truck is infront of my house.  All confused I open the door and say "What are you doing here?"  He says "I forgot something."  I said "I could have met you somewhere, you didn't have to come all the way back here."  He was rushing around and not telling me what it was that he forgot.  Next thing I know he turns me around, gives me a hug, and then gets down on one knee.

Meagan and John

10/10/2010

Engaged since 10/31/2009

We met on Match.com.  He sent me an e-mail telling me he was probably all wrong for me (other side of town, etc.) but that we had a lot in common and he thought I might be the neatest person he'd ever have the chance to meet.  So of course he had to try.  ;)  I was smitten from the first date!

John proposed on October 31, 2009.  He and my son, Brian, had just returned from trick-or-treating.  I was on the couch eating dinner.  My son came in and said, "Mom, I have some candy for you."  I said, "No thanks.  Go to bed."  John said, "Honey, he really wants to give it to you.  It's rock candy."  I still didn't get it.  LOL.  Brian handed me a tootsie roll wrapper.  Inside was a beautiful solitaire - his grandmother's ring.  John dropped down on one knee and proposed.  It was so beautiful and unexpected! (Expected at some date but not that night - I was TOTALLY caught off guard!)

We met in high school. Started dating at the tender age of 16.  Didn't know that was my future husband at the time. haha. But it worked, still works!

Proposal Story
I graduated from college and he was still there, so for our anniversary I drove to visit him.  I kind of knew it might happen then, he told me he was looking at rings. So I was excited.  We were in our hotel and we decided to exchange gifts at midnight (I wasn't going to wait any longer for my ring!) and he said his little speech and asked me to marry him! He's not one to show out, very private... so it was definitely his style and perfect for us....

Vendor Recommendations and website
Ceremony/Reception Venue: AshtonGardens
- They have been great so far.  Always there to answer any questions.  I had to break my deposit into two pieces, and they were very understanding...

Bridal Salon: Brick House Bridal
- I love my consultant, but for some reason I can't remember her name for the life of me! She was very nice, didn't pressure me to buy anything, and all that. BUT
The girl who measured me. (Not that she knew this but, I have already lost around 28 pounds and only have about 5-7 pounds to go) and i asked her what happens if i'm smaller. she chuckled and said. ohh that NEVER happens.. she was flat out rude. and she said well even if you lose 15 pounds.. and i said no. im at the end i have like 5. only then did she inquire about the background to why i asked that question.. the she was like ohhh. and tried to take her foot out of her mouth.. i mean i deal with customers everyday in retail... i might be thinking those things but i dont ever tell them!!

Name: Amanda

Wedding date: October 22 2011 that is the date we decided on, but not set in stone definately going to be in October 2011

How long you've been engaged: Since July 2009 when he first asked, but he asked again (because he did not have a ring the first time) after he got the ring on May 9th this year.... mothers day

How you met: We met through my old best friend we hung out all the time with him, then me and her quit being friends and I still hung out with Tim.

Proposal Story: I thought Tim had work all day but when I got home from my familys house he was there and he took me out (we went to the park by our house to take our son for a walk in the park) and he proposed to me at a bird watching station on one of the trails looking out over clear creek. The first time we were just at home hanging out talking laying in bed i think .

Vendor Recommendations and website: I dont have any recommended vendors I have not done much in the planning process yet we are still setting our budget.(partly why I have not been on in so long)

match.com.... shhhh don't tell ;)

Our group of friends (all other couples) had a big night planned with tickets to see Blue Collar Comedy Tour and go to a japanese steakhouse for dinner. at the end of dinner the chef came back out and started doing tricks again. I was like okay, strange, but whatever. then he pulled something out of his pocket and started flipping it around on his spatula. then he flipped THE RING BOX to my fiance who then got on one knee... I was surprised!

our wedding is taking place in my home state SC so I don't have any...
